LAC internal file, June 7, 2019 (access point: Bell, Alexander Graham, 1847-1922; teacher of the deaf, inventor, scientist; born March 3, 1847, Edinburgh, Scotland; died August 2, 1922, Baddeck, Nova Scotia, Canada; came from Scotland with his parents in July 1870 to Brantford, Ontario, where worked as speech therapists for the deaf, which led him to work with how sound was transmitted and received; invented the telephone in 1874-76; in 1871 accepted a position teaching at a school for the deaf in Boston, Massachusetts; spent summers with the family at Brantford, Ontario; patented the telephone in the US, founding the Bell Telephone Co. on 9 Jul 1877; in approx. 1882 moved to Washington, DC; in 1890 he bought land at Baddeck, NS, and later built there himself a house; in 1907 formed the Aerial Experiment Association in partnership with other engineers; Bell memorabilia have been preserved at the national historic site at Baddeck)
