Wikipedia, viewed Jan. 28, 2019 (Sir Orlando Bridgeman, 1st Baronet, of Great Lever; born Jan. 30, 1606; died June 25, 1674; English jurist, lawyer, and politician. He sat in the House of Commons from 1640 to 1642; educated at Queen's College Cambridge; graduated in 1624, and became fellow of Magdalen College, Cambridge and called to the Bar at the Inner Temple during the same year; elected Member of Parliament in 1640; made Serjeant-at-Law and Lord Chief Baron of the Exchequer in 1640; supporter of the Royalist cause; knighted in 1643; made Serjean-at-Law and Lord Chief Baron of the Exchequer and created first Baronet, of Great Lever in 1660.From 1660-1668 Bridgeman was the Chief Justice of the Court of Common Please, and from 1667-1672 the Lord Keeper of the Great Seal; also known for creating instruments for the conveyancing of estates, his involvement in the Duke of Norfolk's case in 1682 out of which the rule against perpetuities grew, and acting as a judge in the resolution of disputes in the wake of the Great Fire of London in in 1666)
