Dictionary of the booksellers and printers who were at work in England, Scotland and Ireland from 1641-1667, 1907 (Dugard, William; schoolmaster and printer; Merchant Taylors School, 1644-1662; born January 9, 1605; master of Merchant Taylors School in 1644; about the same time he became a member of the Stationers' Company and set up a private printing press in the school; on September 11, 1648 his name first appears in the Stationers' Company's registers; in 1649 he printed the first edition of the Eikon Basilike, followed by Salmasius' Defensio Regia, and was arrested by the Council of State; friends interceded and he was appointed "Printer to His Highness the Lord Protector", but in 1651-1652 he was in trouble again for publishing Royalist materials; in 1661 he was dismissed from his post at Merchant Taylor's School and set up a private school in White's Alley in Coleman Street; died December 3, 1662)
