Washington post WWW site, viewed Oct. 15, 2019 (in obituary dated Oct. 14, 2019: Harold Bloom, the critic and Yale professor whose seminal "The Anxiety of Influence" and melancholy regard for literature's old masters made him a popular author and standard-bearer of Western civilization amid modern trends, died Oct. 14 in New Haven, Conn. He was 89. Harold Bloom was born July 11, 1930, in New York's East Bronx. After earning his doctorate from Yale in 1955, he joined the university's English faculty. Dr. Bloom wrote one novel, "The Flight to Lucifer," but was no more effective than most critics attempting fiction, and he later disowned the book)
